  How do I join?
There are 3 ways to get to MyOutDoorSite's Free Registration webpage from the main MyOutDoorSite webpage.
  • Click on the 'Join Now' banner
  • Click the 'Sign In' link on the top right
  • Click the 'Sign Up' button in the Member Login box
You will be redirected to the Registration webpage. Once there, fill in the required information and you will be sent to your personal MyOutDoorSite webpages. These webpages are empty and ready for you to start customizing.

  How do I get my personal webpage?
When you go through the registration process (see 'How do I join?') you are asked to choose a 'Page Focus'. There are 5 outdoors category to choose from which will be used when creating your personal webpages.
  • Hunting - all types of prey using all types of weapons
  • Fishing - from bass to fly to saltwater fishing
  • Camping - primitive camping to luxury camping
  • WaterSports - skiing, surfing, sailing, canoeing, tubing, just add water
  • InTheField - rock climbing, parasailing, mountain biking, hiking, to name just a few
Once you complete registration you will be automatically redirected to your new webpages. You can then start customizing your webpages to reflect your unique outdoor interests.

  I have a Hunting webpage but want a Fishing webpage, too. Can I have more than one type of outdoor webpage?
Members can create up to five uniquely different webpages for their interests.
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite
  • From you current Hunting webpage, click the 'Edit Profile' link in the 'Member Login' box
  • On the Edit Profile webpage, scroll down to the bottom of the webpage to the 'Page Focus' dropdown menu.
  • Select the new category of Fishing from the menu.
  • Click the 'Update Profile' button and you will automatically be redirected to your new Fishing webpage.
  I typed in a Username on the Registration webpage. Now it tells me to enter a different Username. Why?
Every member must have a unique username and email address. If a member is already using the username you typed in, you will be prompted to enter a different username. If a member is already using the email address you typed in you will be prompted to enter a different email address.

Interactive Help I forgot my password, what do I do?
  • Click the 'I forgot my password' link in the 'Member Login' box.
  • You will be taken to the Password Recovery webpage.
  • Fill in your username and click the Submit button.
  • An email with a new password will be sent to the email account you gave us when you registered with MyOutDoorSite.
Interactive Help I don’t like my password, how can I change it?
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite.
  • Click the 'Edit Profile' link in the 'Member Login' box.
  • You will be taken to the Edit Profile webpage.
  • Type in your current password.
  • Type in the new password you would like to have.
  • We request you type the password a second time to protect against misspelling it.
  • Click the 'Change Password' button to complete the process.
Next time you log on you will be able to use your new password.

  What is an avatar?
An avatar is an Internet user's representation of himself or herself. MyOutDoorSite allows members to choose an image as their avatar.

Interactive Help How do I change the No Photo picture in the content box 'Me Outdoors'? There are 2 ways that your avatar may be set.
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite.
  • Click your 'Album' link.
  • Click on a photo (in your album) you would like to use as an avatar
  • Click the 'Edit this picture's title and description' link.
  • You will be taken to the Edit Media webpage.
  • Click the 'Use this picture along with my bio' checkbox
  • Click the 'Submit' button.
Or if you would like to use a photo that has not been uploaded to your album
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite.
  • Click the 'Edit Profile' link in the 'Member Login' box.
  • You will be taken to the Edit Profile webpage.
  • Scroll to Forum Info box.
  • In the textbox labeled 'Your Picture Url', type in the URL for the photo you wish to use.
  • Click the 'Update Profile' button.
Websites like PhotoBucket supply the url needed to use their pictures. It is just a matter of copying and pasting from their website into ours. Just be sure the URL is for one photo not the webpage the photo is located on. Typically, the URL will end in .jpg or .gif.

Interactive Help Under the content box 'My Bio' it says No Bio Supplied. How do I add my Bio?
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite.
  • Click the 'Edit Profile' link in the Member Login box.
  • You will be taken to the Edit Profile webpage.
  • Scroll to Personal Info box.
  • In the textbox labeled 'Short Bio' type in what you would like to say about yourself.
  • Click the 'Update Profile' button.
Interactive Help How do I design my webpage?
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite.
  • Click the 'Add/Edit Content' link in the Member Login box.
  • A selection of webpage content choices will be displayed in the 'Manage Content' box.
  • Click the checkboxes to select the content you would like displayed.
  • Click the 'Submit' Button.
The links displayed in the 'Manage Content' box will take you to other webpages where you can create your own content.
  • Write your own Blogs, a journal of your thoughts.
  • Write Articles you think others would be interested in.
  • Write Product Reviews on great or not so great equipment.
Once you have content on your webpage, each selected item from the 'Manage Content' box will show up in their own boxes with green titlebars. You can rearrange where those boxes are on the webpage.
  • Move your cursor over the green titlebar.
  • Click on your left mouse button.
  • While holding the mouse button down, drag the content box to where you would like it displayed.
  • When you see a horizontal blue line appear, release the mouse button. The content box will stay in this new position.
Some things, such as 'Weather' and 'RSS Feed' can be added multiple times to your webpage. For instance, if you want to see the weather where you live and the weather at your hunting lease.
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite.
  • Click the 'Add/Edit Content' link in the Member Login box.
  • A selection of webpage content choices will be displayed.
  • Click the checkbox for Weather and supply the zip where you live.
  • Click the 'Submit' Button.
  • A Weather Content Box displaying the weather where you live will be displayed on your webpage.
  • Click the 'Add/Edit Content' link in the Member Login box.
  • Click the checkbox for Weather and supply the zip where hunt.
  • Click the 'Submit' Button.
  • A second Weather Content Box displaying the weather where you hunt will be displayed on your webpage.

  How do I upload pictures and videos to my personal webpages?
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite.
  • Click the 'Album' link to go to your media webpage.
  • Click the 'Upload Pictures/Videos' link.
  • You will be taken to the Media Upload webpage.

  • Upload one item (picture or video) from the Media Upload webpage.
  • Fill in the Title, Description and Location textboxes. This helps people find your media when they do searches.
  • If you have a picture or video on your own computer, click the 'Browse' button and browse to the picture or video you would like to upload to your Album webpage.
  • If you have already uploaded pictures to a website such as Photobucket, just cut and paste the link provided into the text area rather than clicking the Browse button.
  • Be sure the 'Make Public?' checkbox is checked to allow others to view your picture or video.
  • Click the Upload button.

  • Upload multiple items (picture or video) from the Multi Media Upload webpage.
  • You must have the pictures and videos on your own computer, click the 'Browse' button and browse to the pictures or videos you would like to upload to your Album webpage.
  • You can select multiple files by selecting the first file and then while holding the shift key down select the last file. All files in between will be selected, as well.
  • You can also select multiple files by selecting individual files while holding down the Ctrl key. The files can be selected out of order this way.
  • Once you have a list of files in the upload box, they can be completely deleted by clicking the 'Clear List' button or you can remove one file by highlighting it and then clicking the 'Remove' button
  • Once your list is complete, click the Upload button.
  • The upload bar will be completely green and you will see 100% uploaded when the upload has been completed.
  • Click the 'Go Back' button to return to your Album webpage.
You will see the new pictures that you just uploaded on your Album webpage by selecting the Images tab. To make your pictures visible to others visiting your webpage:
  • After your multiple upload, you will need to click on each new picture thumbnail to have it displayed in the main viewer.
  • Click the 'Edit this picture's title and description' link.
  • You will be taken to the Edit Media webpage.
  • Fill in the Title, Description and Location textboxes. This helps people find your picture when they do searches.

  • After your multiple upload, you will need to click on each new video thumbnail to have it displayed in the main viewer.
  • Click the 'Edit Description' button.
  • You will be taken to the Edit Video webpage.
  • Fill in the Title, Description and Location textboxes. This helps people find your video when they do searches.
  • Be sure the 'Make Public?' checkbox is checked to allow others to view your video.
  • Select the Album category you would like the video to show up in.
  • If you would like to hear what other members think of your video, check the 'Allow Comments from other members?' checkbox.

Interactive Help I uploaded pictures but my friends cannot see them. Why?
You most likely have not set the pictures to Pubic. For each picture you must:
  • On your Album webpage, click on the thumbnail of the picture that your friends cannot see. It will appear in the main viewer.
  • Click the 'Edit Description' button.
  • You will be taken to the Edit Media webpage.
  • Be sure the 'Make Public?' checkbox is checked to allow others to view your picture.
  • Click the 'Submit' button to save your changes.

The slide show automatically picks up all images that you have uploaded to your album.

  What is My Fellow Enthusiasts?
This content box will display all the members that have requested and you have accepted to be linked to your webpage.

Interactive Help How do I add my webpage link to my best friend's MyOutdoorSite webpage?
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite
  • Use the Search bar at the top of the page to find and go to your best friend's MyOutdoorSite webpage.
  • Click on the 'Add to Fellow Enthusiasts List' link, found in the 'My Fellow Enthusiasts' content box.
  • You will be taken to the 'Confirm that you want to add a new enthusiast to your list.' page.
  • You confirm your request by clicking the 'Add to My Fellow Enthusiasts List' button.
  • If you change your mind, click the 'Cancel' button.
Once you have clicked the 'Add to My Fellow Enthusiasts List' button, a request will be sent to your best friend. Your best friend then has the option of accepting your request or denying it. If accepted your avatar and a link to your main webpage will be displayed on your best friend's webpage in the 'My Fellow Enthusiasts' content box and their avatar and link will be displayed on your webpage in your 'My Fellow Enthusiasts' content box.

Interactive Help How do I know if I have members that would like to be on 'My Fellow Enthusiasts List'?
  • Log on to MyOutDoorSite
  • Click the 'Fellow Enthusiasts Requests Pending' link located in the 'My Fellow Enthusiasts' content box.
  • You will be taken to the Message Center webpage.
  • The main view window will display a list of Enthusiast Requests.
  • Click the 'Accept' button if you would like this member's homepage link and avatar displayed in your Fellow Enthusiasts content box.
  • Click the 'View' button if you would like to view that member's homepage.
  • Click the 'Message' button if you would like to send that member a message.
  • Click the 'Reject' button if you would not like to add this member as a Fellow Enthusiast on your webpage.
Interactive Help What is My Outdoor Mail?
MyOutDoorSite gives members the capability of messaging other members who are on your 'My Fellow Enthusiast' list without having to give out personal email addresses.
  • To send a message to another member, click the 'Compose a Message' link.
  • You will see a basic email type box with a pulldown list of your Fellow Enthusiasts. Select the person you want to send a message to.
  • Type in your message and click the 'Send Message' button.
  • To see messages that you have received, click the 'Inbox' link.
  • A list of your messages will be displayed. Click the 'Read' link to display the entire message.
  • You have the options of 'Reply', 'Cancel' and 'Delete'.
  • Click the 'Sent' link to see a list of messages you have sent to other members.
  • Click the 'Saved' link to see messages that you have chosen to save.
  • Click the 'Trash' link to see messages that you have deleted.
  I’m having trouble navigating through your website, what am I doing wrong?
  • At the top of all webpages you will see the MyOutDoorSite logo. Clicking on the mountains in the logo will always return you to the main MyOutDoorSite webpage.
  • The row of links directly above the search bar will take you to each of MyOutDoorSite’s main category webpages.
  • If you are logged on, a new link, 'My Home Page', will be displayed in the row of links above the search bar. Click this link to go to your personal webpage.
  • If you are not logged on and are on another member's webpage, the row of links under the logo will display links to that member’s webpages, along with a link back to the main MyOutDoorSite webpage. If you are logged on you will see a link back to your webpages in the row of links above the search bar.
  • If you are on any webpages that have a Cancel button, clicking this button will return you to the previous webpage you were on.
Interactive Help How do I add content to my new webpage?
Below and to the left of your webpage title, click the 'Add/Edit Content' link. The Manage Content box will open that shows a list of items that can be added to your webpage. These items are:
  • Add Content to Column – Your webpage is divided into 2 columns, a narrow column on the left and a wider column on the right. When you select content items to add to the webpage, you can specify whether the new item will be added to the top of a column or the bottom by clicking either radio button 'Top' or radio button 'Bottom'.
  • Add a weather box – If you would like to see current weather displayed for a certain area, click the checkbox and add the zip code for the area you are interested in.
  • Add news feed – a news feed allow you to see when websites have added new content. To add news feeds to your webpage, you will need to add the url of the news feed. You can also type in a title. An example url (Yahoo Top News Stories) - http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories
  • Show MyOutDoorSite Useful Links – On the main MyOutDoorSite webpage, you will find a list of Useful Links to other websites, such as State Wildlife and Conservation, State Parks, etc. You may add this same list to your own webpages.
  • Show my Bio – When you registered you were asked to fill in information about yourself. If you filled in the Bio area, you can display it on your webpage. If you did not fill it in you still may fill in your bio by clicking the Edit Profile link and updating your profile.
  • Show my Picture - When you registered you were asked to fill in information about yourself. If you filled in the 'Your Picture URL' area, you can display your picture on your webpage. If you are using an external link, be sure that the url points to the image rather than an entire webpage. Another way to add 'Your Picture' is to go to your Album webpage, upload the picture you would like displayed to your album. Click the 'Edit this picture’s title and description' link. This will take you to the Edit Media webpage where you can then click the checkbox for 'Use this picture along with my bio' and then click the 'Submit' button.
  • Slide Show of My Pictures – Once you have uploaded pictures to your Album webpage and clicked the 'Make Public?' checkbox so everyone can see them, this slideshow will display all your pictures, one at a time in a slide show format.
  • Show my Fellow Enthusiasts’ links – One way of connecting with members having your same interests is to add a link to their webpages on your webpage. When you browse other member’s webpages, you will see a My Fellow Enthusiasts! Box. If you click the 'Add to Fellow Enthusiasts List' link you can send a request to that member asking to be added to their Fellow Enthusiasts’ List. Clicking this link will take you to a Confirmation webpage. If you want to send the request to this member, click the 'Add to My Fellow Enthusiasts List' button. If not click the 'Cancel' button. The next time that member logs on and clicks the 'Fellow Enthusiast Requests Pending' link, your request will be displayed for him to accept or reject. Once accepted, links will appear on that members’ Fellow Enthusiast List and on your Fellow Enthusiast List.
  • Show Message Summary - MyOutDoorSite allows members to send messages to one another. If you would like to use the messaging system, display this on your webpage. Read your messages, send new messages, manage messages and answer Fellow Enthusiast Requests.
  • List my Articles – Members can add new Articles to their webpages by clicking the 'Add a new Article' link. Once written and saved, these Articles can be listed on your webpage. You will see the title of the Article, when it was posted, how many times it has been read and how others have rated the Article.
  • List my Blogs - Members can add new Blogs to their webpages by clicking the 'Add a new Blog Entry' link. Once written and saved, these Blogs can be listed on your webpage. You will see the title of the Blog, when it was posted, how many times it has been read and how others have rated the Blog.
  • List my Reviews - Members can add new Product Reviews to their webpages by clicking the 'Add a new product Review' link. Once written and saved, these Product Reviews can be listed on your webpage. You will see the title of the review, when it was posted, how many times it has been read and how others have rated the review.
  • Show Top MyOutDoorSite Videos – MyOutDoorSite tracks images and videos that are being rated highly by our members and likes to display them on the front webpages of MyOutDoorSite.com. If you would like to display the top videos on your webpages, select this option.
  • Add stock quote - Add a stock ticker to follow your favorite stock. Just add the Stock Id you are interested in.
  • Add a new Blog Entry – Members can add new Blog entries at any time by clicking this link. Type up your thoughts then click 'Insert' to save it. To display, be sure and click the 'List my Blogs' checkbox.
  • Add a new Article - Members can add new Articles at any time by clicking this link. Type a new outdoor Article then click 'Insert' to save it. To display, be sure and click the 'List my Articles' checkbox.
  • Add a new product Review – Members can add new Product Reviews at any time by clicking this link. Type a new Product Review then click 'Insert' to save it. To display, be sure and click the 'List my Reviews' checkbox.
  • Edit an existing Blog entry – If you would like to go back and edit an existing Blog entry, click this link. Blogs can be edited at any time. Type in corrections or new thoughts then click 'Insert' to save it.
  • Edit an existing Article – If you would like to go back and edit an existing Article, click this link. Articles can be edited at any time. Type in corrections, add new pictures, etc. then click 'Insert' to save it.
  • Edit an existing product Review – If you would like to go back and edit an existing Product Review, click this link. Reviews can be edited at any time. Type in corrections, new information, pictures, etc. then click 'Insert' to save it.
Interactive Help I have added a bunch of content to my webpage but I hate the way it is organized. Can I move the content around?
Your webpage is built of small movable boxes of content placed in one of two columns. There is a narrow column on the left hand side of your webpage and a larger column on the right. The small boxes will fit comfortable in one of the 2 columns.
  • The boxes have green title bars with white text and can be moved by placing your cursor over the green title bar.
  • You will see the cursor change to a diamond shape with small boxes in it.
  • Hold the left mouse button down to 'grab' the box and with the mouse button still down, 'drag' the box to a new location on your webpage.
  • As you drag your box you will see blue horizontal lines appear.
  • Drag your box to one of these blue lines and release your mouse button.
  • The box should stay at the new location.
  • If it does not, try again and be sure your box is hovering on top of a blue horizontal line.
  • It will appear and disappear as you move your boxes of content around.
  What is a Blog?
Blog is short for Web Log but is essentially a journal of your thoughts to be shared with others.

  How do I write a Blog?
  • To create a new Blog, first click the 'Add/Edit Content' link.
  • In the 'Manage Content' box click the 'Add a new Blog entry' link.
  • Select the category your Blog falls under as well as the country.
  • Then you type in your Title and Abstract, which is a summary of what your Blog will be about.
  • In the area labeled Body, type in your Blog.
  • The editor works in much the same way as Microsoft Word. You can cut and paste from other sources. You can set formatting as well as add tables and flash to your Blog.
  • If you wish to add html, click the Source icon, add your html tags and then click the Source icon a second time to preview your webpage.
  • When you have finished you can set who will view your webpage and if you are going to allow comments to be made about your Blog.
  • If you want to save a Blog without finishing it, you can click the 'Listed' checkbox to remove the check so that no one will see your Blog until you are ready.
  • If you would prefer not to allow comments from other members on this Blog, click the 'Comments Enabled' checkbox to remove the check and disallow comments.
  • If you would prefer to have only other MyOutDoorSite members read your Blog, then click the 'Only For Members' checkbox.
  • To save the current changes, click the 'Insert' button.
  • If you change your mind about Blogging just click the 'Cancel' button.

  • Then on the Management webpage click the link for the Article you wish to change.

  How do I write a Product Review?
  • To create a Product Review, first click the 'Add/Edit Content' link.
  • In the 'Manage Content' box click the 'Add a new product Review' link.
  • Select the category your Product Review falls under as well as the country.
  • Then you type in your Title, Manufacturer, Model Name, Positives, Negatives, a Summary of your Product Review and select a Review Rating.
  • The Review Rating is on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).
  • In the area labeled Body, type in your Product Review text.
  • The editor works in much the same way as Microsoft Word. You can cut and paste from other sources. You can set formatting as well as add tables and flash to your Product Review.
  • If you wish to add html, click the Source icon, add your html tags and then click the Source icon a second time to preview your webpage.
  • When you have finished you can set who will view your webpage and if you are going to allow comments to be made about your Product Review.
  • If you want to save the Product Review without finishing it, you can click the 'Listed' checkbox to remove the check so that no one will see your Product Review until you are ready.
  • If you would prefer not to allow comments from other members on this Product Review, click the 'Comments Enabled' checkbox to remove the check and disallow comments.
  • If you would prefer to have only other MyOutDoorSite members read your Product Review, then click the 'Only For Members' checkbox.
  • To save the current changes, click the 'Insert' button.
  • If you change your mind about writing a Product Review just click the 'Cancel' button.
  I wrote a Product Review for my inthefield webpage and would like to see it on my camping webpage. Do I need to edit my Product Review and change category?
  • The Published Reviews List that is displayed on your webpage has a pulldown menu listing categories.
  • You may select a new category at any time and any published Product Review you have written for that category will be displayed.
  • However, if you would like to have it appear on your Hunting webpage all of the time, you will need to click the 'Edit an existing product Review' link from the 'Add/Edit Content' box.
  • Then on the Management webpage click the link for the Product Review you wish to change.
  • Once on the editor webpage, select a new category and click 'Insert' to save it.

  • To publish your content, click the 'Add/Edit Content' link.
  • In the 'Manage Content' box, click the 'Edit an existing blog entry' or 'Edit an existing Article' or 'Edit an existing product Review' link.
  • Once on the Management webpage, click the Title link or the pencil icon to the right of the Title.
  • On the editor webpage, scroll to the bottom.
  • You will see a checkbox titled 'Listed'.
  • If this checkbox has a check in it your content has been marked as published.
  • If there is no check in the checkbox, click it and the check will appear.
  • Click the 'Update 'link to save this change.
  • This is exactly the same when editing Blogs, Articles or Product Reviews.
  • People coming to your webpage will now be able to see your content.

  • There is a Search bar located at the top of all webpages.
  • If you leave the search field blank and click 'Search', the Search Results will return all MyOutDoorSite members.
  • If you type your search text into the search field, you will narrow the Search Results that are returned.
  • One can search by Members, Articles/Reviews, Blogs, Pictures,and Videos.
  I am a Guide/Outfitter. How can I make that known to other MyOutDoorSite members?
When you first register as a new member, you will be asked to fill in personal information about yourself on the About You webpage of the registration.

  • If you look in the green box labeled 'Personal Info' you will see a checkbox labeled 'Guide/Outfitter'.
  • Click the box to check it. Once on your new member webpages, there are two ways of adding more information specific to Guides and Outfitters.
  • Click the 'Edit Profile' link and once on the Edit Your Profile webpage click the 'Update Profile' button.
  • You will be taken to the Edit Your Guide/Outfitter Profile webpage.
  • On this webpage, select County, State/Region, Country and Guide Type.
  • Once these have been selected click the 'Add Location' button.
  • A table will appear at the top of the webpage with your selections.
  • If you work in several counties, states, countries you can add each one by following the directions above.
  • Each time you click the 'Add Location' button a new table will appear listing your selected information.
  • Once you have listed all the information pertaining to your Guide/Outfitter services, click the 'Update Profile' button.
  • The second way to get to this Guide/Outfitter profile webpage is to click the 'Add/Edit Content' link.
  • In the 'Manage Content' box, click the 'Show Guide Areas' checkbox then click the 'Submit' button.
  • Your areas will be listed for everyone to see.
  • If you need to edit those areas, click the 'Edit Areas' link and you will be taken to the Edit Your Guide/Outfitter Profile webpage just mentioned where you can add or delete locations.
